hey lovies...
so last year i decided to enjoy the FNO festivities and i am not exaggerating when i tell you i had a blast! new york city was so full of life, energy and creativity (yes, more than usual). so naturally, i returned this year determined to make it better than the last. instead of hopping from store to store, i was fortunate enough to attend a few shows!!! my best friend and i held back nothing and with much excitement made the best of what the week had to offer.
DISCLAIMER: i will only be featuring a few of the shows i attended
now if you didn't know this about me, i am a big time sucker for fashion with a cause. kris and i are in the lincoln center waiting for one of our shows to start and suddenly we were approached by a woman who drafted us to the "fatigues to fabulous" premiere. only an idiot would turn the opportunity down... so we check-in, grab our tickets and make our way to the presentation area. in front of us is a stage and behind us was a dj in his booth, champagne and a few dknyc watches on display (had to google picture because mine wasn't so great).
the scene gets more and more crowded and in the crowd are vanessa hudgens and designer carmen marc valvo (who designed one of the dresses a soldier wore).
in no time, in enters 6 women beautifully dressed.
the designer list includes charlotte ronson, carmen marc valvo (as previously mentioned), bill blass, calvin klein, donna karen, and a feature from the sears kardashian kollection.
the presenters, mindy grossman (ceo of hsn) and phyllis greenberger (society for women's health research) follow not too far behind and gave us an intro to what we were to expect.
all these women were veterans; all came from different walks and shared their stories of what life had been like for them after serving in the military... tales of rape, drugs, homelessness, depression, etc. silence and glossy eyes filled the room... these were by far a few of the amazing women that served this country and endured many hardships during and after their commitments to this country.
the fatigues to fashion organization is nation wide and was created with purpose to support female veterans. hsn has teamed up with the organization, and the beautiful watches shown up there are a courtesy of dknyc. when a watch is purchased a donation is made to the society for "women's health and research" and "give an hour".
ann marie faison... the woman in blue (carmen marc valvo) sung amazing grace at the end of the presentation and it truly touched me and almost brought tears to my eyes... and i don't cry easily! there was just so much emotion behind the voice and i felt it.
to find out more about this cause and/or how you can show your support, i did a little research:
here's my lovely gift bag (which my new "go to" bag) and the wonderful gifts that were inside... thank you fatigues for fabulous! i will definitely be purchasing a watch in the near future and will showcase once received...
so maybe not the typical fashion show... but one of the best presentations at the lincoln center by far!
